The Controllerâ™s Department is responsible for the University's financial accounting and reporting functions, including Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, and Grants Accounting. The departmentis responsible for the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions and reporting. The incumbent is a member of the General Accounting department. The incumbent performs their assigned tasks accurately and timely to ensure the close of the Universityâ™s financial records. The Accounting Analyst is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of monthly account analysis and reconciliations as assigned by the Assistant Director of General Accounting and Reporting.
General Ledger and Period Close
Prepares general ledger account reconciliations.
Assists the Senior Accountant in reconciling financial data from third party systems, at a pre-determined frequency but not less than monthly
Assists in the month end closing process.
Assists stakeholders and requestors so they understand account balances and content
Corrects general ledger account errors and omissions on a timely basis
Reviews account balances for completeness and the proper classification of transactions
Researches and clears suspense account items and notifies the data source of corrections needed to avoid repetitive errors
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts.
Prepares quarterly financial statement analyses on assigned accounts.
Prepares detailed schedules for quarterly reporting.
Completes audit schedules
Utilizes queries and reports to prepare reports and analysis
Identifies and implements process improvements
Assists with university wide financial audit
Assists with p-card and petty cash audits
Workday Financial Implementation:
Participates in the review of process workflows, system testing, and training
Provides feedback and recommendations for system design improvement
Reviews and validates converted data for accuracy and completeness
Bachelorâ™s degree in accounting from an accredited University or College
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as issued by GASB and FASB
At least 2 years of experience in preparing account analysis and reconciliations
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word or similar applications.
Good understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
Experience with an enterprise wide system, preferably Workday or the PeopleSoft general ledger system and other financial modules
Working knowledge of GASB
Experience working for a higher education institution or a large nonprofit organization
Strong analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
