EdChoice seeks a Vice President of Development to lead EdChoice’s development department in the implementation of its new strategic development plan.

The Vice President of Development will be responsible for managing up to the President, overseeing the Director of Development and Major Gifts Officer, and coordinating the organization’s development and programming activities. The Vice President will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and achievement of EdChoice’s three-year strategic development plan, ensuring that goals are met and each team member’s responsibilities are fulfilled. The Vice President will play a key role in building systems and structures as detailed in the development plan, including a major-donor club, a planned-giving society, and more formal development procedures and practices.
In addition to leading the department, the Vice President will manage a small caseload of key organizational donors, including several foundation relationships. The Vice President will be expected to travel for in-person donor meetings, as well as to attend events and represent EdChoice and its mission.
The Vice President works closely with, supports, and reports directly to the President. Overall, the Vice President of Development is responsible for creating a healthy fundraising culture at EdChoice and supporting the development team in their efforts to advance the mission of EdChoice by inviting and enabling supporters to join in that mission financially. The position is based in Indianapolis and will require some travel.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the implementation of the strategic development plan.
Manage up to the President to ensure and enable his involvement in EdChoice’s development efforts.
Implement and oversee key performance metrics for the entire development team.
Manage a small caseload of up to 40 top individual and foundation donors.
Travel for meetings with caseload donors, major prospects, and relevant events and conferences (up to 40%).
Support the President, Director of Development, and Major Gifts Officer in development efforts.
Ensure that the development team achieves its clearly-articulated goals, both individually and as a team.
Facilitate collaboration between the development and programming efforts of EdChoice, including updating senior staff on development progress and engaging programs and support staff in development efforts as necessary.
Consistently evaluate departmental performance and identify areas and methods for growth.
Deep passion for school choice and the particular mission of EdChoice.
Minimum seven years of relevant fundraising and nonprofit experience is required, including experience directly cultivating a caseload of donors.
Experience managing a small team of people.
Superior time management skills and relational intelligence.
Superior writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
Familiarity with development moves management systems (Salesforce experience a plus).
Strong ability to communicate EdChoice’s mission and build strong personal relationships with prospective and current major donors.
Ability to drive and maintain momentum on tasks that are team-based and tasks that are pursued individually.
Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) skills experience.
Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
