Cures Start Here . At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutchs pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nations first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Womens Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to lead a project in cancer drug target discovery based in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Kemp . The ideal candidate will have a formal background in cancer biology, expertise in cell culture, including tumor organoids, molecular biology, genetic analysis, and the use of animal models.
The applicant will apply state of the art functional genomic and high-throughput screening approaches to identify genes required for cancer cell survival and sensitizers to current cancer therapeutics. Through functional cellular assays, and animal models, the applicant will prioritize and validate these as candidate drug targets. The applicant will be expected to interact with an interdisciplinary local team (computational scientists, clinicians, cancer biologists) and with the national CTD2 network . We currently have identified several high-value targets that are in stages of validation in patient derived tumor organoids.
A PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer biology, genetics, or related discipline.
Demonstrated track record of productive, independent research.
Experience with drug development would be a plus.
To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your research accomplishments, and suitability for this position with your application. At least two letters of recommendation will be requested as part of the screening process.

At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, teams of world-renowned scientists and humanitarians work together to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other diseases. Researchers are discovering new ways to detect cancers earlier, improve treatments, and learn how to prevent cancers from growing. Although Fred Hutchinson opened its doors in 1975, its history began about 20 years before that. In 1962 Fred Hutchinson envisioned a center devoted to studying cancer, a disease that took his brother’s life. Today Fred Hutchinson is contributing to the next waves of breakthrough treatments and prevention strategies. Fred Hutchinson collaborates with the Seattle Cancer Alliance, the National Cancer Institute, and the University of Washington.
