The director of membership marketing and annual giving is responsible for the overall strategy and management of the NCMA membership program and all other fundraising appeals of an annual nature. The primary focus of this position is to raise revenue by promoting membership acquisition, retention, and growth at all levels, creating and deploying traditional and digital annual fund campaigns, and taking a leadership role in promoting gift upgrades. A successful director of membership marketing and annual giving will be externally facing, accessible, and well known to members at all levels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Cultivate relationships with existing and new members and donors and engage them as potential donors and lifelong Museum supporters. Manage a portfolio of leadership-level prospects as well as annual giving donors.
Work with direct mail partners to develop and implement creative and innovative membership appeals, upgrade strategies, and annual giving campaigns. Recommend incentives, campaign strategies, and data segments to increase revenue.
Oversee fulfillment of all member benefits at all donor levels.
Coordinate monthly membership renewals. Activities include segmentation of data, analysis of results, and incorporating new concepts to increase renewal rates and average gift.
Work with Marketing Department to manage digital efforts in the Membership Department, which includes member engagement series, renewals, direct mail efforts, monthly communications, website updates, and other development projects.
Develop and implement annual fund campaigns in traditional and digital format.
Significantly contribute to revenue forecasting; analyze membership and annual fund donor base to make data-driven decisions.
Work with the Advancement events team to coordinate membership events and oversee a calendar of events intended to engage and steward members and donors.
Work with the Visitor Experience Department to create a strong Museum visitor/member experience. Train Museum staff on membership benefits and associated offers.
Minimum of three, and ideally five+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and membership, preferably in the arts and cultural sector.
Technological literacy (Microsoft Office and other formats) required with strong database experience (Tessitura preferred).
Experience and Skills:
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills including financial literacy, with an understanding of financial metrics and ability to analyze data.
Solid record of accomplishment in online marketing and membership sales, fundraising writing, and direct mail marketing or similar.
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and leading teams.
Experience in managing integrated marketing campaigns.
Experience in managing multiple vendor relationships.
Strong communication skills (written/oral) and public interaction skills.
Outstanding organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated experience in taking initiative when planning and executing projects.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
