The main goal of the laboratory is to combine basic stem cell biology and clinically relevant murine models in order to develop new therapeutic approaches to promote hematopoietic stem cell function in bone marrow failure and to enhance hematopoietic reconstitution after bone marrow transplantation. We are particularly interested in using microenvironment-derived molecules as drugs or therapeutic targets, and have identified several novel niche factors using proximity-based single cell analysis as a discovery strategy (for details, please see Silberstein et al, Cell Stem Cell 2016, Goncalves, Silberstein et al, Cell 2016).
A successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the murine colony and conducting animal experiments which involve stem cell transplantation, fluorescently-activated cell sorting/analysis and molecular studies of stem cells/progenitors.
The incumbent will be part of a Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Program at the Fred Hutch and interact closely with other laboratories within the Program (Kiem, Adair, Bernstein, Hadland, Doulatov) and those within Integrated Immunotherapy Research Center (Dudakov, Turtle).
Research Technician I required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline and prior research laboratory experience.
Research Technician II required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline and 2 or more years of relevant professional research experience. A Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline can substitute for 2 years of professional research experience.
The candidate must have an interest in stem cell research. Applications from candidates considering medical/graduate schools are encouraged. Previous experience of working with murine models is not essential, but the position requires that a candidate handle the animals on a daily basis and perform standard animal procedures (appropriate training will be provided). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
