Departmental Overview Berkeley's Career Center plays a critical role in preparing students for graduation and beyond. The Center helps undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni make informed decisions about their futures by providing comprehensive resources, programs, career counseling, externships and internships, and employment and professional /graduate school options - whether they are building upon a liberal arts education, leveraging their academic preparation in business or engineering, envisioning a future in medicine, or seeking a career in the corporate or nonprofit workforce.
Responsibilities Researches, designs, and develops workshops and programs to meet students' and alumni's career needs. Develops and oversees delivery of broad and complex career-focused programs and events that incorporate the needs of campus partners and constituents. Types of events could include:
Collaboration with Haas Alumni Office to provide networking opportunities for students and alumni;
Collaboration with MBA Career Management Group to leverage school-wide services and communications for the undergraduates;
Customized events or workshops focused on introducing undergraduates to the variety of career fields open to students with a business background
Execute administrative functions such as:
Utilize career center software systems and apply current technologies to enhance service delivery, including online resources. Utilizes knowledge of constituency needs to create and improve specialized content for the Career Center website.
Develop marketing materials and promotions for programs and workshops
Participate in office and/or campus committees
Attend and actively contribute to staff and counseling meetings
Researches and organizes economic and employment trend information and graduate program admission data, and synthesizes information to create relevant and meaningful content.
Presents tailored and complex information about career services, including presentations to the public at events such as homecoming weekend or orientation.
Pursues professional development opportunities which will enhance their understanding of trends as they relate to their constituency and the field in general, and building their skills.
Serve as the primary person in the Career Center to provide customer service for employers referred by the Haas Undergraduate Program Office seeking to employ business students and desiring an extra level of service.
Establishes new relationships and maintains current ones, with corporations and other organizations related to career opportunities for Haas Undergraduates. This involves personal interactions during employer recruiting trips, visiting employers on site, and discussing employers' needs during information sessions and career fairs.
Collaborates with Employer Relations to devise and implement strategies to provide a high level of service to employers and alumni who are seeking to develop a new or stronger relationship with the Career Center and the Haas Undergraduate Business School.
Designs and manages an employer recruitment strategy that focuses on cultivating employers via a number of venues: employer information sessions, partnership programs, employer visits, and alumni connections.
Coordinate employer campus visits to discuss recruiting strategies and provide specialized assistance to employers, scheduling information presentations and activities with student organizations.
Provides direct service to current students and recent alum in the form of career counseling in particularly complex areas that require specialized expertise for undergraduates in the Haas School of Business, requiring expert guidance on translating their skills into various industries or helping them plan and apply for graduate and professional programs.
Helps students identify their interests, values, skills, and personalities, and understand how these factors relate to academic/career satisfaction and choices;
Uses standard quantitative and qualitative assessments to help clients assess career goals.
Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career self-assessment and decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice, workshop and program design.
Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Knowledge of Career Center eligibility standards and policies regarding use of recruiting and job listing, and alumni services, and Career Center's proprietary record keeping software and Handshake, our Career Management software.
Demonstrated capacity to successfully engage a population of highly diverse students across a broad range of complex counseling issues in a top tier, academic research setting.
Ability to plan and design effective events and programs to meet constituency needs.
Strong communication skills - writing, presentation and interpersonal.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and expectations of constituencies
Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
