The Development Officer (DO) is vital member of the D'Amore-McKim School of Business' (DMSB) front-line fundraising team. Reporting to the Director of Giving and School Initiatives, the DO will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects (prospects capable of $100,000 and above gifts), and will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors who have the ability to make gifts in this range. The DO will work alone and in conjunction with the Dean, Assistant Dean, faculty, Trustee volunteers and senior university advancement to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual prospects. Candidates must be entrepreneurial and have a keen understanding on how to build strategic relationships and networks that will support long term institutional relationships. Candidates should have a proven track record in soliciting and closing gifts.
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes and qualifications:
5+ years professional work experience, with at least 3 years of relevant advancement experience at a nonprofit institution, higher education preferred.
An appreciation and understanding of the mission of Northeastern University; demonstrated commitment to and experience in higher education
Superior communication skills – the ability to understand and convey University programs, priorities and issues to a wide variety of audiences
Excellent writing skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, and volunteers
Enthusiasm for pipeline building and discovery meetings
Overnight travel and some evening and weekend work required
BA/BS degree required, and masters preferred
An affirming, positive, motivational, entrepreneurial style
Ability to work independently and collaboratively; Strong personal work ethic, self-motivated and results-oriented
