The Real Estate Council of Austin, Inc. (RECA) is a dynamic 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that serves as an organized advocacy group and professional networking forum for more than 1,700 commercial real estate professionals in Central Texas. RECA’s membership includes developers, builders, financial institutions, architects, engineers and anyone with a professional interest in commercial real estate.
RECA's mission is to advance civic leadership in support of responsible development and a livable Austin. RECA serves as an effective resource and advocate for the industry on issues including building regulations and permitting, affordability, transportation, the environment and any other issues that may impact the quality of life in Central Texas. Many of RECA’s members are small business owners and entrepreneurs who build our community’s favorite places including our churches, schools, restaurants, gathering places and more.
Position/Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time position from Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and duties will require a flexible schedule and after-hours work as needed.
RECA seeks an independent, experienced individual to serve as Director of Events for an influential, member-based association. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Events will plan, oversee and execute all RECA events to ensure high turnout, quality service and an overall positive experience for attendees. Events are a key driver of RECA’s membership and are integral to RECA’s overall mission.
Work closely with the CEO and RECA staff to ensure the success of all RECA’s events
Direct strategy, goals and event execution for all annual RECA events, including but not limited to:
KnockOut Night black-tie gala and fundraiser (1)
RECA Exchange half-day conference (1)
RECA Charity Golf Classic (1)
RECA luncheons (6)
RECA Happy Hours (4)
RECA Project Tours (4-6)
Board and Executive Committee Meetings (10)
LDC monthly lunch & learns (10)
Other events as needed
Market, solicit and secure sponsorships and oversee ticket and table sales for all events
Develop and maintain detailed budgets, successfully meet budget goals and provide regular reports and metrics for success
Handle venue sourcing, third-party vendors, contract negotiation, food & beverage guarantees, audio-visual resources and any other necessary tasks to ensure successful events
Build, develop and maintain relationships with members, current and potential sponsors and community partners to further support the organization
Support the Director of Membership with RECA’s two young professional programs (LDC & REAL YP), including booking speakers and venues, developing topics, coordinating mentorships and supervising program participants
Oversee and manage volunteers on any relevant RECA committees, including the Events & Communications Committee
Work with Director of Communications to devise and execute marketing strategy for all upcoming events
At least three years' experience in an events manager or related position and advanced knowledge of catering, hospitality, and food and beverage industries is expected
Highly organized, attention to detail and excellent customer service skills
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to complete tasks, projects, and events on time and within budget
Experience using negotiating skills and strategies
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain professional demeanor under stress
Proven ability to own event budgets, secure sponsorships, build event revenue and achieve and clearly report on financial goals
Demonstrated ability to think creatively in a deadline-driven environment
Ability to thrive in a close-knit team environment
Preferred Additional Experience
Experience in graphic design including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Knowledge of Austin event venues and locations
Established connections and/or knowledge of the local commercial real estate or business industry
