Position: Institutional Giving Coordinator
Urban Gateways seeks an experienced grant writer to join its Development Department as the Institutional Giving Coordinator.
The Institutional Giving Coordinator (IGC) writes and submits funding proposals, grant applications, reports, and updates to funders. She/he will research and identify government, corporate, and foundation grant funding opportunities for the purpose of developing additional funding resources for the organization. The IGC will support the Chief Development Officer in the stewardship of institutional funders and incorporating funder representatives into special events and other recognition/benefit opportunities. S/he is responsible for coordinating the full grants portfolio, overseeing grant application and reporting deadlines, assessing eligibility for new sources, and completing the grant submission processes, including the packaging, presentation, and follow-up for each request. The optimal candidate will have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and will be a highly organized, creative thinker with a demonstrated background in grants management.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Manage the grants calendar to complete proposals and report documents for corporate, foundation, and government funders to meet all deadlines.
Identify, research, and solicit prospects for new funding opportunities.
Assist in soliciting corporate underwriting support for special events.
Work with Program Staff and the Finance Department to gather pertinent grant information including budgets, program descriptions, and documentation.
Assist Chief Development Officer and Individual Giving Coordinator (and other departments on occasion) with events, appeals, newsletters, meetings, etc. as needed.

A Bachelor’s Degree in arts or education-related field or equivalent work history.
Proven experience in writing grants and managing a grants portfolio.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Working knowledge of Chicago’s philanthropic communities is a major plus.
Minimum of five years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with special consideration for those with arts-education, youth- or community-based programming experience.
Experience with Salesforce preferred.
Ability to manage numerous projects and tasks while maintaining a positive attitude and cool demeanor.
Ability to occasionally work evening and/or weekend events as needed.
Must be a team player.
