You are invited to apply for a position at the quantitative biology group in the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutch. We are interested in using experimental biology to quantitatively examine cooperation, because cooperation can be found virtually everywhere: between different cell types (e.g. our body), different individuals (e.g. ant colonies), or different species (e.g. flower-pollinator symbiosis). How can cooperation survive the invasion of cheaters that take but not give? How does cooperation evolve? We plan to study cooperation initially using an engineered system in which two complementary types of yeast cells can only survive when both types are present.
