Columbia Business School seeks a strategic, high-performing leader to serve as its Vice Dean. Reporting to the Dean, the Vice Dean will serve as an integral member of Columbia Business School's senior leadership team. The Vice Dean is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for an organization that involves functional accountability for admissions, financial aid, academic and student affairs, as well as the career management office.
Direct and manage key administrative functions to develop a clear strategy and vision for admissions, financial aid, academic and student affairs, and the career management office. Manage the performance of all assigned staff.
Oversee a broad range of special projects and initiatives on behalf of the Dean, utilizing data to track progress and contribute to more effective performance management, where appropriate.
Attracting and recruiting top students, while meeting the Dean's vision and goals of staying competitive with top tier global MBA programs.
Work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure clear communication and follow-through with various projects and initiatives for the School.
In coordination with the Dean, serve as a liaison with central University Offices, and represent the School and Dean's interests internally and externally to Columbia.
Promote and raise the profile and impact of the School to internal and external constituencies by balancing departmental and institutional priorities and being a visible, engaged and communicative leader representing the School and the University.
Maximize the Columbia Business School brand and positive experience within the student population.
Provide guidance, information, advice, and counsel to faculty and staff concerning administrative initiatives associated with teaching, research, and clinical activities.
Interact regularly with a range of diverse stakeholders, on a variety of issues that could include faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry executives, donors, etc.
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree strongly preferred. Minimum 10 years of relevant leadership and management experience, which could come from the for-profit, nonprofit, or an education setting.
Must have a strong team-based orientation; a personality that thrives in matrixed environments and enjoys partnering with fellow senior team members and faculty to achieve results. An approach to staff management that brings out the best in team members yielding operational excellence, pride, ownership, and a deep commitment to Columbia Business School. Must have superior communication skills and the ability to connect with a variety of audiences including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers; clarity, crispness and effectiveness in written and oral presentation. Exemplary interpersonal and listening skills required. Must have a genuine passion for contributing to the transformation of a premier global business school that is operating in a rapidly changing environment. The ability to mobilize and/or build upon a vision that leverages current strengths promotes the exchange of ideas and cuts across silos to translate to diverse stakeholders required. Must have a keen eye for operational efficiency and optimal use of resources; an aptitude for use of data and metrics in decision-making; the ability to plan, monitor, and tightly manage a budget. Must be able to travel periodically, both domestically and internationally, as needed.
