Job Title: Senior Policy Advisor Department: Government Affairs Reports To: Public Affairs Director FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary: Advances the advocacy goals of the Austin Board of REALTORS® by advising on policy positions and providing independent analytical research and analysis of proposed and pending municipal and county legislation. Additionally leverages grassroots and political programs to achieve positive public policy outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Lobby elected officials at the request of the CEO or Director of Public Affairs. • Represent ABoR positions to elected officials and at stakeholder groups and public hearings. • Cultivates relationships with staff in governmental entities and among other stakeholder groups. • Engage in political affairs at request of Director of Public Affairs, including advising and reporting on independent expenditure campaigns. • Conduct independent assessments and exercise judgment to determine relevant issues related to the interests of ABoR. • Provide results of research and analysis of proposed legislation. • Work closely with Board of Directors Steering Committees (Committees) on policy and legislative issues. • Serve as liaison to Diversity Council and Legislative Management Team. • Collaborate with the Director on policy issues. • Proactively monitor municipal and county agendas. • Develop position statements based upon the Public Policy Agenda of ABoR and present to the Director for further discussion with the Committees and final consideration by the ABoR Board of Directors. • Research and evaluate what other municipalities are doing when considering a proactive approach on an issue. • Coordinate Committees activities such as meeting maintenance, agendas, minutes and member-wide programs. • Establish the focus for Committees policy teams to guide the development of future position statements.
Education/Experience: Master's degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, use of the internet and the ability to learn specialized software abilities
