The Editorial Assistant assists the acquisitions editors who are responsible for signing, developing, and publishing high-quality books in the humanities and the social sciences. Provides a range of administrative support. Under general supervision works on operational and/or procedural assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving procedural issues. Makes recommendations to improve processes and/or procedures.

Duty 1: Assist editors responsible for signing, developing, and publishing high-quality books in the social sciences, including textbooks and open access publications. Function:1 Percent: 20
Duty 2: Assist editors with manuscript and proposal review and solicit academic and instructor feedback on new book projects and revised editions. Conduct basic market research and prepare competitive overviews for new titles. Function:2 Percent: 10
Duty 3: Prepare profit and loss statements for individual books. Function:3 Percent: 10
Duty 4: Guide authors in preparing manuscripts for production, evaluate art and permissions and format files, and act as liaison to the production department. Function:4 Percent: 10
Duty 5: Respond to author requests and queries in a timely and professional manner. Act as liaison between author and Press personnel from various departments. Function:5 Percent: 10
Duty 7: Perform clerical tasks such as copying, maintaining electronic and hardcopy files, maintaining data in shared systems, drafting contracts from standard templates, and processing invoices. Function:7 Percent: 10
Duty 9: Provide other administrative support as needed. Function:9 Percent: 10
Job Requirements Education equivalent to high school graduation and three years experience providing administrative support in a comparable work environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
Requires verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills. Required
