Cure SMA is seeking a Director of Development who will lead a national development strategy aimed at driving increased revenue by securing new supporters while strengthening existing relationships with the organization’s donors and sponsors. The ideal candidate will be a fundraising generalist who is comfortable working with both corporate and individual donors. S/he will also be responsible for prospecting, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with potential and existing Cure SMA supporters.
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, s/he will work closely with Cure SMA’s Marketing, Communication, and Events & Family Support departments to identify prospects, cultivate relationships, secure support, and determine stewardship and recognition plans.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Development will lead a national development strategy. S/he will collaborate with the VP of Development to:
Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to achieve revenue goals to include major gifts, special campaigns, events, individual giving and sponsorship opportunities.
Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for staff.
Plan and execute donor cultivation and recognition activities.
The Director of Development will serve as the relationship manager for a portfolio of prospects, sponsors, and donors. S/he will:
Identify and execute the necessary cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities necessary to maintain and grow support from that portfolio.
Conduct exploratory meetings to generate new partnerships.
Write and edit proposals, reports, correspondence, event collateral and other documents for internal and external audiences.
Management of Development Department staff
The Director of Development is responsible for two direct reports and will:
Set benchmarks to meet and exceed revenue goals.
Track progress towards goals and make adjustments as needed to ensure successful achievement of revenue targets.
Provide direction and guidance to Development staff on best practices; serve as a consultant and a resource to Cure SMA staff working to develop revenue and cultivate relationships with supporters.
Collaborate with the VP of Development on staff development plans and department growth goals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel required when necessary
Bachelor’s Degree required. Focus in non-profit management, communications, or marketing preferred.
Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising including experience with managing direct reports; experience with health care related organizations preferred
Proven experience working with donors and corporate sponsors; including outstanding ability to establish relationships, make asks, and thank appropriately.
Self-starter, motivated individual with the ability to set goals and take action to achieve goals.
Able to prioritize, schedule, manage, and monitor multiple projects.
Able to establish strong collaborative relationships and work with others in a cooperative and effective manner.
Able to work and communicate with a wide range of internal and external constituents.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and Luminate Online with the ability to extract and analyze data, run reports and queries.
The Director of Development will maintain accurate records of donor, sponsor and gift information managing all information with the highest professional and ethical standards.
The position requires strong analytical, communication, and negotiating skills, good judgment in making decisions independently, and an ability to establish and maintain positive professional working relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners.
Work is generally sedentary in nature, but requires walking, sitting, traveling, and occasionally standing, bending, reaching, lifting boxes, and unloading supplies. Requires ability to lift 25 pounds or less.
