I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under the strategic direction of the Chapter Executive Director, the Membership Manager is responsible for coordinating NASW-MA membership recruitment and retention initiatives throughout the commonwealth.
This person reports to the Chapter Executive Director.
II. BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop membership recruitment and retention initiatives in collaboration with regional staff and other chapter staff. This includes:
a. Conducting outreach to members via email, direct mail, and other mediums.
b. Coordinating welcome calls and emails to new members and sending assignments to regional staff.
c. Creating membership reports and conducting data analysis on successful membership initiatives.
d. Participating in monthly national membership calls and implementing learned best practices in Massachusetts.
e. Facilitating monthly calls with regional staff to provide membership and other chapter updates and to work collaboratively to coordinate membership activities statewide.
2. Coordinate student and newer professional membership recruitment and retention activities. This includes:
a. Scheduling and attending schools of social work student orientations across the state.
b. Initiating surveys and conversations regarding membership benefits and value for students.
c. Initiating networking/visibility events to recruit and retain student and newer professional members.
d. Coordinating and growing the NASW MA Student Ambassador Program, engaging students at the schools of social work across Massachusetts in activities that promote membership retention and recruitment efforts.
3. Act as the Chapter’s Greater Boston regional liaison, which is the largest membership region in Massachusetts, which may include staffing of local networking and membership events.
4. Maintain the Shared Interest Group meetings and Regional Council meeting schedules on the chapter website and help disseminate regional activities to interested social workers and members.
5. Support marketing activities around NASW MA programming and advocacy to ensure members understand how to engage and the value of membership.
6. Become familiar with the NASW-MA 2018-2020 Strategic Plan and devise a clear work plan to meet the Chapter’s membership goals with specific and explicit attention to the chapter’s racial justice goals and priorities.
7. Submit articles for the Social Work Voice magazine and monthly e-newsletter to promote membership recruitment and retention.

· Strong problem identification skills, including the ability to generate creative solutions, exercise common sense and sound judgment, and make effective decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
· Ability to work independently, but also as part of multiple teams.
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work is required
· Knowledge of successful membership association recruitment and retention initiatives
· A keen sense of the need for equity, diversity, and inclusion in membership recruitment and retention activities
· Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice and to the advancement of the social work profession
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
1. Minimum of 2 years of related work experience, preferably at a professional association and/or nonprofit setting.
2. Sales, marketing, and budgeting.
