The Batten Group, a national executive search and consulting firm specializing in nonprofit, health and mission-based philanthropy, has been retained by ALSAC / St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to identify strong business and development professionals to lead the Washington DC market as Market Executive Director.
The Market Executive Director is responsible for driving growth and development of all philanthropic activities, including events and programs, high wealth activities, high profile partners and corporations within the specified market through the management and leadership integration of cross divisional team members. Develops and implements market specific strategic plan in partnership with all development and operational divisions (where appropriate) to identify, cultivate, solicit/close and steward high wealth, corporate and individual volunteers, donors and sponsors with purpose of growing existing revenue sources and creating new revenue opportunities. This includes special event and general fundraising, media relations and public relations. Responsible for leading, managing and developing market specific Major Gift, New Business Development and Regional Executive Director Positions for identified market.
Knowledge ordinarily acquired through a Bachelor’s degree.
10 or more years of relevant experience in the field of fundraising.
Five or more years of previous experience through increasing levels of management responsibility including supervision, budgeting, strategic planning, organizational development.
Speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations; excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Understand extremely complex verbal or written instructions.
Ability to interact well with team members and peers; possess excellent diplomacy skills.
Must be able to prepare written communications and resolve questions/issues in copy.
Excellent attention to detail and adherence to deadlines required.
Must understand work processing, presentation, analytics and desktop publishing applications, including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Access and Excel.
Physical: Requires walking/standing, sitting and lifting. Involves stooping, forward bending and crouching; involves traveling by train, plane and/or automobile approximately 50% of time. Involves occasional periods of extremely long work hours.
Environmental: Requires capability of performing essential job functions in various office environments under various lighting and climate control tolerances.
Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms, and feet for occasional lifting; use of hands and arms to operate telephone, personal computer, other general office equipment and to record written information.
Audible/Visual: Requires ability to hear; requires ability to visually observe essential job functions for satisfactorily job performance.
