National Assistance League® is a California-based nonprofit (501)(c)(3) organization that provides philanthropic programs to help people in our communities achieve a better quality of life. The organization has 22,000 member volunteers in 120 chapters transforming the lives of children and adults by fundraising, governing and executing successful community-based philanthropic programs in communities across America.
The purpose of Assistance League’s national organization is to build and maintain effective chapters nationwide through education, inspiration and support. We seek an experienced, proactive, highly motivated Executive Director to elevate the profile of the organization through successful fundraising, enhanced marketing and implementation of strategic initiatives.
This position reports directly to the elected National Board President and manages a staff of 6. The office is located in Burbank, California.
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the Assistance League’s national office administration and program operations, including ensuring outstanding member service and support, executing the strategic plan in collaboration with the Board, ensuring the consistent achievement of financial objectives and implementing policies set by the Board. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and community outreach. This position provides leadership to establish and execute goals and objectives with staff, Board members and chapter members to ensure alignment with the mission of the organization.
Five or more years of nonprofit management experience. Leading regionally or nationally, a plus.
Proven success and knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector.
Unwavering commitment to quality, ethical standards, and delivering satisfaction to the Board and members.
Demonstrated inspirational leader.
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
Excellent communications skills. Proven ability to work effectively with people remotely and with varying skill sets and diverse cultures. Strong public speaking ability.
Budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting.
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
Ability to develop high-performance teams through mentoring, training and other staff development means.
Acquainted with volunteer-based organizations.

All chapters implement our signature program, Operation School Bell® and additional customized philanthropic programs to meet community needs. Chapters fund programs through thrift shop proceeds, grants, donations and special events specific to each chapter. Chapters do not receive funding from the national organization.?
National Assistance League’s engaged, all-volunteer Board of Directors, knowledgeable and dedicated national committees (composed of member volunteers from local chapters), and a professional six-member staff: ?
• Promote effective volunteerism through education, support and leadership development.?
• Authorize, establish and organize local chapters as well as subordinate organizations (auxiliaries) for chapters.?
• Provide administrative, legal and operational guidance.?
• Determine and maintain standards for chapters.?
