The Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to assist and coordinate studies investigating treatment, prevention, quality of life impacts and new technologies for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
This is a regular, full time (40 hrs/wk), non exempt (hourly-paid) position. Benefits:

PAVIR is a nonprofit foundation affiliated with the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS). As a condition of employment, all PAVIR employees are required to have an approved appointment with VAPAHCS and complete a background check before they can commence work.
Identify, recruit, and enroll potential subjects after obtaining informed consent;
Prepare case reports and consent forms;
Communicate with study subjects regularly via follow-up visits and telephone contact;
Call study subjects to remind and/or administer follow-up assessments.
Communicate with and educate patients and families;
Communicate with referring physicians, local IRB, study sponsors, and the FDA;
Report adverse events in a timely manner.
Record and enter data into a computerized database;
Assist with managing the database for internal and external audits and prepare summary reports;
Collect clinical data and other samples per research protocols;
Ensure correct specimen handling and shipping.
Review protocols for compliance with accepted research guidelines;
Track study costs and sponsor payments, review documents, and monitor the study protocol for continuous quality improvement;
Submit IRB applications;
Participate in monitor visits and regulatory audits;
Ensure the filing and maintenance of all regulatory documents.
Travel to training meetings.
Assist with other study- related duties as needed.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree (or at least 15 years of equivalent experience) in Human Biology (preferred) or in Psychology, Health Sciences or a related field.
License / Certification:Valid Driver's License is required.
Required: 1 year of related experience or experience conducting and coordinating clinical research;
Desired: 18 months or more of related experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Familiarity and/or interest in clinical research;
Knowledge of VA and its health care system regarding clinical research trials preferred;
Understanding of VA procedures and safety issues in addition to IRB, FDA, and other sponsors;
Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively;
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and good computer skills;
Ability to read and understand the study protocol;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel;
Ability to prioritize and organize a high-volume workload and adapt to changing priorities.
Environmental Conditions / Physical Demands:
Physical: Frequently sit for long periods of time to perform desk-based computer tasks and meet with employees. Occasionally lift / carry / push / pull objects that weigh up to 10 lbs. Will encounter patients who have impaired cognitive function, anxious, and/or difficult.
Environmental: Exposure to office and hospital/clinical environment. Exposure to imaging equipment (i.e. MRI and PET centers). Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Occasional travel may be required.
