Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus is a grassroots, community-based agency whose mission is to advance health equity among Black gay, bisexual and same gender loving men by developing community-centered leadership and innovative programs.
The equity coordinator is responsible for assembling and disseminating information on health promotion resources that cater to Black gay, bisexual, and same gender loving men. This position will supply our agency with the on-the-ground knowledge necessary to be our community’s hub.
This position is one of the principal stewards of our agency’s core philosophy: health equity, including the elimination of new HIV infections and achieving undetectability for those living with HIV, necessitates both community-led and community-informed models of work.
This position reports directly to the executive director.
Strategy and Administration
Contribute to the production and execution of strategic, operational, and action plans
Coordinate relationships with research bodies, academic institutions, and other data-producing organizations
Attend to other duties relevant to operational and programmatic success
Programming and Events
Support program implementation. This means representing our agency’s four strategic priorities: leadership development, grassroots organizing, capacity building, and health marketing
Manage one program directly with support of executive director: Equity Coordination
Identify services, businesses, and community assets in Chicagoland that are culturally responsive to the needs of Black SGL men.
Update agency website with the above information
Implement community surveys to determine needs related to quality of life and interests related to social well-being
Support one program: Caucus Corps membership network
Screen members for health and quality of life needs and connect to resources which address those needs
Provide event support when necessary, including basic volunteer duties
Support the implementation of marketing strategy, including production of all agency marketing collateral (print to online) and special communications such as press releases and public statements
Maintain high level of individual and agency visibility through in-person community engagement
This position requires a diverse set of skills. The ideal candidate must have expertise in health marketing, human services, and public health:
Bachelor’s degree or comparable education in health marketing, public health, or social work
At least 2 years professional experience in human services or related fields
At least 4 years professional experience working with diverse Black gay, bisexual, same gender loving men and other MSM populations
Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS epidemic, including social determinants of health that impact Black gay, bisexual, and same gender loving men
Additionally, candidates should embody the following:
Commitment to HIV elimination, racial justice, LGBT equality, and health equity
High degree of personal initiative with ability to meet aggressive goals; work both independently and in small teams; and thrive within a creative culture
Ability to develop relationships with nonprofit, community, and business leaders, particularly those dedicated to racial justice and LGBT equality
Intermediate writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
Idealistic and ambitious, with positive attitude, mission-focus, and sense of urgency
Eagerness to grow as professional, community leader, and public servant
