Located in Atlanta, Skyland Trail is a nationally recognized nonprofit psychiatric treatment organization offering residential and day treatment programs for adults ages 18 and older. We treat adults with bipolar illness, major depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders. We specialize in treating clients with complex diagnoses involving co-occurring substance misuse, anxiety, or personality disorders. A specialized program helps young adults navigate their first episode of psychosis. Skyland Trail is accredited by The Joint Commission and has offered evidence-based treatment for 30 years. We are currently looking for a Primary Counselor to work across all our our recovery tracks, with multiple modalities.
Scope: To ensure that each client within the assigned caseload is sufficiently supported by the Skyland Trail program services from the client's entry into the program until discharge. Responsible for well-planned and coordinated therapeutic services within the recovery program.
Coordinates all aspects of services to support the goals of client (i.e. recovery plan meetings, treatment planning, and discharge planning).
Ensures all admission documents are complete including information from referring facilities. Ensure all assessments (i.e.; psychosocial, activity therapy, ADL, nutrition, employment and educational, admissions, self-assessments, etc.) are completed such that the recovery plans may be completed in a timely manner.
Develops individualized recovery plans (complete with day treatment schedule) for caseload and revises as necessary with input of recovery team. Conducts individual sessions at least once per week with assigned caseload, also reviews clients’ treatment plans and documents progression towards recovery plan goals. Records all changes in status as necessary.
Oversees daily core groups and assures coverage for assigned recovery track(s). Participates in weekly recovery team meetings and provides professional case presentation. Communicates recovery goals, wellness plans, expectations and opportunities for clients.
Participates in weekly supervision with Medical Director. Participates in weekly supervision with Day Services Director for administrative purposes, support and case consultation.
Works with recovery team(s) to design wellness plans. Writes appropriate wellness plans for caseload as needed, and reports plan and progress/or lack of progress to the client, family and clinical staff
Completes all documentation in accordance with agency guidelines. Complete progress report on each client and completes concurrent reviews for UR staff. Conducts reviews with MCO in UR staff and MD absence. Maintain contact with insurance companies as required by each managed care organization’s standards.
Maintains verbal or written contact with families at a minimum of once every 2 weeks, and has family sessions at a minimum of once every month.
Practices ethically and complies with facility policies and accreditation standards (i.e., Joint Commission, ORS, etc.)
Assists and guides clients to achieve the maximum level of independence, while functioning in the least restrictive environment.
Refers clients to appropriate services, internally and externally. Maintains contact with other service providers.
Conduct assigned Day Treatment groups and document in electronic health record. Develop written curriculums for each group. Utilize curriculum resources to plan, facilitate and/or co-facilitate assigned day treatment groups.
Supervise master’s level intern(s) weekly as needed and have regular contact with school advisor.
Provides transportation for clients as needed.
Participate in continuing education program in specialty area.
Completes other duties as assigned.

Employs innovative and flexible strategies/thinking to maximize treatment benefits for clients
Exhibits professional conduct at all times
Knowledge and ability to enforce HIPAA standards and Skyland Trail Confidentiality Policies
Master degree in related field (i.e.; Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.).
Prior training/experience with adults who have severe and persistent mental health problems and co-occurring substance use disorders, in group and/or individual counseling setting.
Prior experience in partial hospitalization/day treatment setting for chronically mentally ill clients with substance use disorders.
DBT experience preferred.
