Wellspring, a force for good in downtown Fort Wayne since 1968, is seeking its next Executive Director. This exciting opportunity will be the perfect challenge for an experienced and energetic nonprofit leader with highly developed interpersonal and financial skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for Wellspring’s mission of enriching the lives of the residents of Fort Wayne.
Wellspring was formed when five congregations partnered with the local YWCA to provide summer programs for youth living in the West Central Neighborhood. Five decades later, Wellspring—supported by a diverse faith family of 16 congregations—annually serves more than 7,000 individuals from across the city. Wellspring still serves Fort Wayne’s youth through after-school and summer day camp programs, but services have expanded to include a food bank, clothing shop and programming for older adults.
Wellspring’s Executive Director provides primary leadership for the organization, from strategic planning to day-to-day operations. The next executive will be responsible for: maintaining a positive working partnership with the Board of Directors; serving as the face of the organization and developing strategic community partnerships; overseeing fund development and relationships with key funders; budgeting and fiscal management; program development and management; communications, public relations and marketing; facilities and IT management; and staff development, culture and oversight.
The ideal candidate will be a high-energy, well-organized and results-driven professional. He or she must be well versed at developing and nurturing collaborative partnerships; attuned to the needs of the community and consumers; and able to bring together and inspire people to achieve great things. The next Executive Director must possess exemplary presentation and verbal and written communication skills and be able to skillfully message on behalf of Wellspring to a diverse audience.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ experience in a leadership role, including demonstrated success in staff supervision and financial oversight. Nonprofit experience, including in a fund development role, preferred. Knowledge of, and experience working with, Fort Wayne’s network of funders, service providers and faith communities highly desirable. Active engagement of the faith community required.
