The Hartford Foundation has created a new position, Director of Development- Major Gifts Program, at a critical time in our history and a pivotal moment for the region. We are searching for a high-energy fundraiser who has a track record of soliciting leadership gifts, leading campaigns- who is passionate about the organization's mission and can build upon our strong history of putting philanthropy into action for our donors.
Our Director of Development- Major Gifts will be a key revenue driver for the Foundation, responsible for both short-term and long-term revenue goals and over time, will diversify the Foundation's resource base. The Director will work closely with the Vice President, Director of Development â€“ Donor Grants, the prospect team, other members of the Development team along with volunteers and board members. Together, they will implement revenue generating strategies that will build the Foundation's visibility, impact and financial resources to meet its current goals and future growth.
The key accountabilities for this position are:
Carry a portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects for cultivation and solicitation.
Lead prospect team and overall prospect development.
Plan and implement a major gift program including leading the prospect team in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects.
Design and implement a plan to cultivate private foundations and corporations.
With Vice President design campaigns to encourage new donor gifts.
Minimum Requirements for this position are:
15+ years of experience in major gift solicitation, preferably in a large institution, foundation or university setting, with gifts of $5-10 million plus solicited and closed annually;
Significant experience working with individual clients/donors of wealth and donors from diverse backgrounds and experience;
Success leading a large-scale endowment or capital campaign;
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust, respect and relationships with donors and other staff
Experience in leading and participating in multi-disciplinary teams;
Advanced degree in law or business preferred;
Knowledge of the Greater Hartford region, its nonprofit organizations, donors, corporations and community leaders preferred.
