Job Summary: As part of the transformation of Career Education at Wellesley, career communities have been created for various career fields. The Career Community Advisors serve as advisors, facilitators, and conveners of students, employers, alumnae, and faculty within their assigned career fields. We are currently seeking to fill the role of our Career Community Advisor for Health Professions, Public Health and Life Sciences. This role is responsible for creating physical and virtual communities that educate our students on trends and issues in their chosen areas, provide knowledge that can help them achieve a competitive edge, generate employment opportunities for them, and directly connect them to trusted alumnae / employers for information and mentorship. This position is responsible for one-on-one student advising, employer relations within the assigned career field, student-employer programming, networking events, and other related educational seminars or meetings. It is necessary for the Career Community Advisor to be extremely relatable to students, strong relationship builders with a variety of stakeholders (including alumnae, employers, and faculty), organized for event execution, and adaptable to changing trends – both in student interests and in the marketplace. Student Advising: - Serve as expert within assigned career field, maintaining current information on recruiting practices, timelines, and industry trends. In this case, it would be education, nonprofit, and human services
- Provide one-on-one advising appointments, pop up advising hours, and group advising sessions
- Adjust and adapt advising to the unique backgrounds and identities of Wellesley students
- Educate and prepare students on the specifics of a successful internship / job / graduate school search strategy, including document review, resources for research, networking techniques, interview prep, and salary negotiation
- Assist students in leveraging the use of social media and other technology in their internship / job / graduate school search strategy
- Present educational materials on a variety of career topics and collaborate with staff to create, customize, and execute student / alumnae / faculty / employer networking events and panels
- Collaborate closely with College Career Mentors to help develop / emphasize the importance of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and reflection as part of adaptation and reinvention for the future of work
- Collaborate closely with faculty to determine needs and desires of students; Identify faculty expertise and work collaboratively to provide graduate school advising within career field
- Promote relevant Wellesley-identified internships to career community and provide necessary prep sessions to ensure strong candidates
Employer and External Relations: - Create a customized recruiting experience for targeted employers
- Build and maintain strong employer relationships through the utilization of programs, events, and services
- Engage employers in student and alumnae panels and educational programs
- Collaborate with Program Director for Employer Engagement to identify popular employers and gap areas within assigned career field and to enhance and strengthen those relationships to provide increased opportunities to students and alumnae
- Increase internship and full-time recruiting efforts by promoting Wellesley students and alumnae to local, regional, and national employers
- Host and visit employers to develop opportunities as needed
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recruiting and career field trends by interacting with employers regularly and sharing with staff
- Outreach with faculty in assigned liaison areas to ensure seamless and constant communication and two-way information sharing
- Collaborate with Director and other Advisors as appropriate to engage and foster alumnae relationships within career communities
Programming and Events: - Create and oversee all logistical components for targeted events and programs relevant to assigned career fields (including execution of program or event)
- Provide timely advice, networking events, and career prep materials in accordance with the recruiting pattern, practice, and timeline for assigned career field(s)
- Invite local and national alumnae and employers to participate in educational panels, networking events, and prep sessions
- Partner with Director, Health Professions Advising and Coordinator, Health Professions on programming, advising, and communications
- Collaborate closely with College Career Mentors to incorporate strategies and techniques related to self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and reflection
- Collaborate closely with faculty, departments, and other campus partners to host programs regularly
- Collaborate with other staff to host programs and events regionally and nationally at various clubs or major cities during Wintersession, Spring Break, and Summer Vacation
The Hive, Social Media, and Communications: - Work collaboratively with Marketing & Digital Media Manager to ensure strong and targeted content for career community newsletters / emails / notices
- Use The Hive (Wellesley’s networking / mentorship platform) technology to promote strong sense of career community on and beyond campus
- Curate and manage content as needed for targeted career field communications
- Maintain social media presence as appropriate to promote, engage, and educate students / alumnae on relevant career field information or opportunities
Cross-Functional Teams and College Initiatives: - Serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction of Career Education
- Serve as a liaison to College departments as appropriate
- Represent Wellesley and the center in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with industry standards and changes, revise programs to reflect trends, and increase the center’s visibility among professionals in the field
- Participate in Wellesley committees providing representation of Career Education on community issues
