Deputy Director, Modeling and Managing Complicated Systems Institute
School of Computing and Information-RC - United States-Pennsylvania - (18000544)
The Modeling and Managing Complicated Systems Institute (MoMaCS Institute) is being created to engage academics, industry, government and nonprofits to work together on complicated problems that involve many intersecting systems and stakeholders. The most pressing problems of the day have many causes, and stakeholders may have conflicting priorities and solutions. Modeling and evidence-based policy are paramount, but it is difficult to model complicated systems. MoMaCS is developing new modeling technology, but recognizes that models serve deliberation and policy. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the daily operations of the Institute. Specific responsibilities of the Deputy Director include:
Assisting the Institute Executive Director in strategic planning and programmatic development
Developing and managing the human, financial and physical resources of the Institute including the annual MoMaCS conference and professional society
Representing the Institute to the public, key stakeholders and business partners
Identifying opportunities for marketing activities that elevate the status of the Institute
Facilitating partnership development to bring in stakeholders from government, NGOs, researchers, businesses, DoD, etc.
Ensuring adherence to contracts
Providing guidance, as requested by the Institute Executive Director, for fundraising and donor management, business development and partnership activities
>5 years experience. PhD in computer science, information science, statistics or a related discipline, preferred. Familiarity with modeling complicated systems in any discipline is most desirable (e.g., climate modeling, economic modeling, systems biology, etc.). Because MOMACS is also concerned with managing complicated systems, candidates with advanced degrees in policy will also be considered. Possess a demonstrated successful track record of administrative and program oversight. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources of the institute and keep several projects moving forward, simultaneously. Diplomatic and management skills. Ability to represent the institute to the public, key stakeholders and business partners.
