Summary/Objective The senior writer is responsible for a wide range of writing tasks for multiple Harvard Kennedy School platforms, producing online, digital, social media, and print content, often producing content under tight deadlines. The candidate should be a driven storyteller with strong news judgement and experience writing in a leading academic setting. This role requires building relationships across the School to assist areas with promoting their areas of expertise. In addition, this role will work with leadership to devise and execute strategies for clients across HKS. The senior writer must be creative, while also possessing the ability to assess and address the needs of multiple clients. The successful candidate will need to work across communications teams (editorial, digital, and design) and be strategic in determining the concept, voice, and editorial direction of a wide range of print and digital projects. The senior writer will be responsible not only for developing stories and writing copy but also editing content for grammar, style, tone, branding, and appropriate language depending on the type of communication and target audience. The incumbent must be able to write for a variety of media types, including for video. This position will be responsible for covering beats across the Kennedy School and for submitting content to University-wide publications, such as the Harvard Gazette. The senior writer must have demonstrated knowledge of professional editorial practices and processes, including strong knowledge of AP Style.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field
Minimum five years of professional writing and editing experience
Must have demonstrated professional experience as a writer, with strong knowledge of professional editorial practices and processes, including in copy editing/proofreading.
Ability to develop and write creative, compelling and accurate content in a variety of styles for diverse audiences and platforms, including print, online, and digital.
Proven communication and collaboration skills with internal teams and clients
Ability to work independently and exercise strong professional and editorial judgment
Ability to manage multiple projects and workflow in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Strong analytic and creative skills; attention to detail; ability to adhere to schedules and work well independently and in collaborative teams
The position requires considerable flexibility, with an ability to juggle multiple assignments while meeting hard deadlines.
Strong storytelling, writing, research and interviewing skills are required
Experience working for a major university, newspaper or magazine, or nonprofit organization preferred.
