POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) , to conduct and support research on innovative methodologies associated with randomized trials, with several possible areas of focus--econometric and survey methods; research with administrative data; and data science, data security, and big data. Will contribute to at least one of two possible areas: the collection, publication, documentation, and combination of data from RCTs for methods-focused projects that use this data; and J-PAL's new Innovations, Data, Experiments, and Action (IDEA) initiative, which aims to tap administrative data collected by firms, governments, nonprofits, and others to generate new research. Tasks may involve reading current scientific literature, liaising with researchers, mapping out gaps in available techniques, and developing tools to facilitate novel research. May also create project tracking tools that allow the collection of survey instruments and data for the purposes of conducting methods research; document best practices and identify knowledge gaps or ethical, legal, or technical challenges to administrative data use; oversee research staff and provide strategic and scientific guidance; and carry out other research-related tasks as needed. J-PAL's mission is to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence, and research is translated into action.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : doctoral degree in economics, political science, computer science, or related field; demonstrated research interest in one or more of the subject areas noted above; proficiency in one or more data analysis programs and programming languages; and proven ability to handle several projects/tasks at one time and meet deadlines.
