Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director of Research for the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH). The Associate Director of Research is a member of IFH's senior leadership team with responsibilities that include participating in strategic planning, overseeing programmatic and research operations across IFH's centers and programs, securing grant funding through proposal design and development, grant writing, providing high level policy and technical expertise to collaborators and stakeholders, establishing alliances and leading the translation and dissemination of research findings to academic and public audiences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supports the Director in building a vibrant collaborative research infrastructure that generates successful initiatives in grant funding and project outcomes.
Leads/co-leads the formation and coordination of working groups on research proposal development and coordinates IFH's partnerships with academic departments and research units at Rutgers and other institutions.
Ensures the quality of the IFH's transmission and dissemination of research with external constituencies and advances the effectiveness/impact of the IFH's research in information dissemination and influencing policy decisions.
Responsible for the preparation and presentation of materials for professional meetings, seminars, Catalyst programs and conferences to promote collaborative research.
Co-leads the IFH Development Advisory Committee that works with the RBHS Director of Development seeking private and public funding for IFH initiatives including scholarships, fellowships, endowed chairs and research centers.
Develops contacts and alliances with Rutgers and external university academic administrators, policymakers, and representatives of private and nonprofit sectors (as it is critical to the IFH's expanding success and valued expertise in research proposal development and success in securing NIH, state and foundation funding).
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in a social science, health profession, health services research, health policy administration or public policy.
A minimum of 5 years' experience in a university, research operation or health-related policy or service organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective, dynamic, highly collaborative leader with substantial research and/or experience
Proven track record and expertise in grant writing, research project development and working with interdisciplinary teams
Ability to analyze complex issues and synthesize divergent views to forge consensus in developing proposals and policy initiatives
Experience and in-depth knowledge and expertise in health research and/or policy
Experience in writing clear, sophisticated and informative reports and publishable articles for peer reviewed journals
Excellent presentational skills for talks to constituency groups and advocacy organizations
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
PhD, ScD or MD preferred.
History of prior grant applications/awards.
7 years' experience in a university, research operation or health-related policy or service organization
