Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Finance & Accounting will oversee an operating budget of $17 million dollars. This position will manage all tactical matters as they relate to finance and accounting, budget management, financial planning, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting and cash management and will work effectively with the CEO to ensure the organization’s ongoing financial stability and nurture the organization’s culture and values.
Finance & Accounting
Develop and implement financial management strategies and policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and provide robust and reliable financial operations to drive long term growth.
Maintain the integrity of the organization’s accounting system and subsequent ledgers. Participate in, and provide oversight of, the preparation of monthly general ledger journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger account analysis. Lead Accounting/Finance operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective accounting operations with strong internal controls that result in clean financial statement audits, prompt payments and collections.
Oversee the management of banking and investments of third-party vendor. Optimize the organization’s cash flow management. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs of the organization.
Supervise the organization’s independent and governmental audits. Present findings to the CEO, Treasurer, Audit Committee and the Board of Directors.
Lead and support the annual budget/review/forecasting processes partnering with senior management, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. This includes producing timely monthly financial reporting and analysis, variance reporting, leading periodic re-forecasts of full-year projections and development of remediation plans when necessary. Recommend broader enhancements to the budget process (e.g., shifting to a 3-5-year budget cycle rather than the year-to-year approach currently used).
Develop and execute global financial business models. Ensure international tax requirements are met (Canada, Australia, Latin America, China, India, and Singapore). Develop reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs of the organization. Solidify the financial process for invoicing in foreign currencies. Manage all foreign banking relationships and administrator on all bank accounts.
Advise RIMS 79 chapter Treasurers on activities such as custodianship of funds, securities and assets of their organizations. Create and distribute, quarterly reports on the chapter pooled investment account. Ensure the timely distribution of chapter dues collected by RIMS on behalf of the chapters requesting this service.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of property and manage facilities support, mail and print operations and other services that accommodate staff.
This position will provide financial management to the following entities: 1. The Spencer Educational Foundation 2. The Global Risk Management Institute, Inc. (GRMI) ; serves as Treasurer. 3. The International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations, Inc. (IFRIMA) 4. RIMS Canada Council (RCC) 5. RIMS Risk PAC; serves as Treasurer; prepares all quarterly and yearly FEC filings.
Direct Reports (6): Controller, Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounts Receivable Specialist, Office Services Associate, Spencer Program Director, and the Spencer Foundation Development Director.
Travel: This position requires 10% travel: RIMS Annual Conference, RIMS Canada Conference, Board of Directors Meetings and personal development training and events.

10+ years of related experience, with at least five in a senior financial management role. Extensive knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management required. International experience required.
Experience implementing new accounting software packages
BA in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration required; CPA required.
Proficient in multiple finance technology platforms and MS Office.
Experience using Great Plains, Concur and CRM platforms desired.
