The Development Assistant will engage in an array of projects that will strengthen their growth in the field of nonprofit fundraising.
With the Associate Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts, the Development Assistant will help develop and execute a comprehensive, annual giving plan that generates individual support and increases the total number of Annual Fund donors with a specific focus on individuals contributing <$1,500 annually. Additionally, the Development Assistant is responsible for a portfolio of donors contributing $1,500 to $5,000 annually.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for achieving annual fundraising goals and objectives set at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Assist Associate Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts, in planning and implementing a comprehensive Annual Fund strategy and campaign to retain current donors and attract lapsed and acquisition donors.
Coordinate Annual Fund activities, including direct mail, online giving and personal solicitations.
Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors.
Responsible for maintaining database integrity and understanding of all database processes.
Manage invoicing process.
Assist with the portfolio stewardship process to ensure department-wide communication with donors and follow-up throughout the fiscal year.
Provide frequent updates and reports on campaign status and progress. Analyze effectiveness of campaigns and fundraising channels.
In collaboration with Houston Symphony League Annual Fund Chairs, Fundraising Chair and Manager, League Relations and Fundraising, plan and implement Annual Fund volunteer opportunities for Houston Symphony League members.
Compose Development social media content and messaging through online channels (including website, social media, donation pages, etc.), ensuring the information is up to date, refreshed periodically and that all online channels are being used effectively for fundraising efforts.
Work with members of Houston Symphony Chorus to plan and implement annual $30,000 Chorus Endowment fundraising campaign.
Maintain a portfolio of Patron level donors who give $1,500 or more annually.
Review giving benefits and membership levels for donors. Customize donor benefits as required and ensure benefit fulfillment.
Assist Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts with portfolio management and additional tasks as needed.
Assist in planning and execution of cultivation and stewardship events.
Attend performances and donor events as required. Concert duty as assigned.
Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony Society.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Fundraising experience working in music or the arts preferred.
Ability to speak compellingly about our organization, mission and funding goals to individuals and groups.
Customer-first service approach to donor management.
Ability to organize and handle competitive priorities.
Flourishes in a team-oriented environment and is independently motivated.
Ability to operate with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, creative and deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work some nights and weekends during the concert season.
Creative, flexible, excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of Tessitura or other fundraising database platform (i.e. Raisers Edge, Millennium) preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
