Advertised Summary Job Description: Columbia Law School seeks a talented, meticulous writer, editor, and researcher to join its Office of Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs. An integral member of the editorial team, the Writer/Editor will create content that advances the Law School's story across multiple platforms. The Writer/Editor will research, produce, proofread, and copy-edit a variety of digital and print materials. Projects include, but are not limited to, brochures, viewbooks, press releases, faculty bios, reports on Law School news, and profiles of students and alumni. The position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, proofreading and copy-editing skills, the ability to translate complex ideas into engaging, accessible prose, and a high awareness of current events.
Responsibilities Research and write a range of original content, including publicity items about faculty honors, student achievements, and institutional news; press, marketing, and development materials; web content; social media posts; Q&As; e-newsletters, and more.
Serve as the in-house proofreader, fact checker, and copy editor. Provide assistance to the senior writer as needed.
Report on and write articles about Law School events, such as guest lectures, conferences, and panel discussions.
Participate in editorial planning meetings, generate story ideas, and keep track of upcoming Law School events and news that might make for good editorial and news content.
Assist with special projects and other assignments as needed.

General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, or related field required. Advanced degree, or active pursuit thereof, a plus. At least 3 years work experience as a writer, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting. Demonstrated ability to write for a range of audiences and content types, including marketing, news, social media, etc. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including the proven ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources and present to a lay audience in a compelling way. Top-notch copy-editing and proofreading skills.
A demonstrated interest in the law and legal education, as well as world affairs, is a plus. Multimedia skills is also a plus.
Fluency with Microsoft Office and Google Enterprise applications. Experience working in Drupal a plus. Comfortable using project management software, such as Trello, Basecamp or Asana.
