The Northeastern Retail Lumber Association which represents 1,100 independent retail lumber and associated companies throughout the Northeast is seeking a highly energetic, organized individual to manage its legislative programs
Candidate must possess strong leadership skills and experience in conducting effective legislative and/or regulatory campaigns that combine research, communications and grassroots mobilization. Excellent written, oral communication skills and ability to travel is a must.
A bachelor’s degree in government relations, political science or other related field and at least 5 years of legislative experience is preferred.
Review other trade association bulletins, alerts & updates
Provide weekly updates to LC-Wired publication
With the legislative committees and with lobbyists identify legislative priorities & strategic plan for 3-4 states.
Initiate and facilitate grassroots lobbying efforts in 3-4 states. Ex: lobby days and yard tours
Draft action alerts
Prepare testimony for public hearings
Coordinate PAC fund-raising for relevant NRLA states
Write Lumber Co-operator story as appropriate
Solicit, edit, distribute and post on line, legislative updates submitted by each state lobbyist.
Update Government Affairs Portion of NRLA Web Site
Provide Legislative Reports to Legislative Chairpeople for local association meetings.
Approve expenditures, i.e., lobbyist payments, dues, subscriptions, etc.
Prepare Lobbyist Disclosure Reports
Contribute to monthly talking points for state and local associations
Coordinate education events with Education Department on urgent new laws or regulations.
Identify legislative priorities with committees.
Prepare letter writing campaigns on Federal issues
Plan NRLA sponsored events at the national Legislative Leadership Conference (March) including a sponsored dinner & tour.
Negotiate contracts for lobbyists
Prepare department budget
National Legislative Conference:b) Send invitations to House and Senate on behalf of members with information about issues to be discussed.
c) Research, book, and solicit sponsorships for group dinner held during National conference.
a) Invitations to state/local presidents, board members and each state legislative committee member. Work with NRLA Regional Directors to build attendance.
