At an exciting point of inflection, Northwest Health Foundation (NWHF) now seeks a dynamic and inspiring new President to guide its innovative and bold path to improving health in the region by engaging with communities to develop and amplify their political power. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working in partnership with a talented and passionate staff, the new President will lead the continued transformation of the foundation’s strategic direction by forging new partnerships regionally and nationally and serving as partner and catalyzer for transforming communities impacted by the social determinants of health.
Founded in 1997, following the sale of PACC Health Plans and PACC HMO,) NWHF is a philanthropic organization committed to shaping and advancing the work of improving civic health and health equity in the State of Oregon and Southwest Washington. Comprised of both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities and with a vision for health that goes well beyond just the absence of illness, NWHF seeks to improve the state of physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being for all by engaging with communities and leveraging partnerships to enable informed, grassroots civic health initiatives and activism. NWHF manages an endowment of nearly $50 million and maintains funding partnerships across the public and private sectors, including notable funds established with Nike, Kaiser Permanente, Meyer Memorial Trust, and CARE OR, among others.
The new President will be a thoughtful and strategic leader who has a broad and sophisticated view of health and how communities can engage in, build power for, and drive initiatives toward better health. S/he/they will possess a sophisticated understanding of how to leverage the unique power of a 501(c)(4) philanthropic organization and amplify change through policy and advocacy efforts. The new President will have the natural ability to connect authentically with a broad diversity of communities and a sophisticated understanding of the structures and systems that have led to differences in power and privilege. Finally, s/he/they will be a humble leader who is drawn to the vision that through empowered and engaged communities every person has the opportunity to lead a healthy life.
