Founded in 1894, Chicago Commons was one of Chicago’s original settlement houses serving immigrants on Chicago’s northwest side. Today, Chicago Commons is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to partner with individuals, families and communities to overcome poverty, discrimination and isolation. To fulfill that mission, Chicago Commons provides high-quality early childhood education, family-centered adult education, and senior services to more than 3,000 individuals annually.
Chicago Commons’ programs and services serve as the backbone of many at-risk Chicago communities, including West Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Bronzeville, and New City (Back of the Yards). These neighborhoods are impacted by high rates of poverty and limited educational and economic resources. POSITION OVERVIEW – Human Resources Coordinator
The Human Resources Coordinator will be a valuable member of our HR Team. This role will support the Senior HR Manager and HR Generalist. This is a fabulous opportunity to develop and enhance your HR career and be a partner is a collaborative HR environment while being recognized for your contribution to team success.
A successful candidate will be highly customer focused, organized, keen attention to detail, have impeccable clerical and data entry skills, experience in managing HRIS related processes, enjoy working as a team in a collaborative environment and self-directed with the ability to problem solvers.
Candidates must have excellent HR experience, a minimum of five (2) years supporting talent acquisition, benefits administration and HRIS processing.
An Associate’s degree is required preferably on Business Management or related field; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. S/he must enjoy working in an entrepreneurial nonprofit organization and be comfortable navigating complex, fast-paced working environments.
This full-time position is based in Chicago near Hyde Park with an immediate start date.
1. Maintain Human Resources Information System by processing all new hires, changes and termination into to system for payroll preparation and complete before payroll is process by the finance department. 2. Assist with benefit administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, performs benefit related reconciliations and communication of benefit information to employees. 3. Coordinate benefit enrollment for new employees. 4. Assisting in the processing of Unemployment Compensation claim responses with IDES for the agency, as well as audits and government reporting, coordinator with managers in preparation for unemployment hearings with IDES and HR Generalist. 5. Assist in managing documentation associated with Workers compensation , FMLA, COBRA administration and Retirement plans. 6. Coordinating with the HR Generalist to ensure timely and accurate processing of FMLA s including verification of eligibility, notification of approval or denial, managing certifications, return to work, fitness for duty, etc. 7. Tracking staff time off for medical leave including intermitted FMLA. 8. Partner with HR Managers regarding coordinating responses for special accommodations for staff. 9. Act as department resource to ensure staff issues and concerns are routed to the correct team member for accurate and timely customer assistance ( by phone, in person) 10. Assists HR staff with special projects and assignments 11. Assist with processing employment verifications, completing documentation for check requests for invoices received 12. Coordinates with team members to schedule events, meetings, training and gather all the required materials as requested 13. Maintains Personnel files for both current and terminated staff 14. Participate and assist HR Team with agency-wide programs, Culture Counsel, Holiday Events, Recognition Events etc.
