Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) is seeking an experienced and strategic development director to serve as the principal strategist to maintain, develop and implement creative methods for supporting NHS through increased philanthropy and additional revenue streams, and promoting a strong public image of this large and complex neighborhood revitalization nonprofit. NHS is one of Chicago's largest and most innovative neighborhood revitalization organizations, serving over 5,000 clients last year through homeownership promotion and lending, homeownership preservation, and property preservation. NHS Chicago has a staff of 85 and a current annual operating budget of approximately $11 Million.
The Director of Development will demonstrate a keen understanding of the products and services of NHS so that he/she can build upon existing stakeholder relationships while building new ones, and ensure that the NHS message reaches the audiences that will best support our work and mission. The selected professional will be an excellent multi-tasker, strong communicator and collaborator who brings a diverse range of experience in volunteer utilization, donor cultivation, communications, public relations, and oversight of events.
This position works directly with the CEO, the Board of Directors, senior staff leaders, and select committees to establish fundraising priorities, plan donor requests, directly seek donor support and achieve resource development goals. The Director also plans and directs organizational events, manages the 4 person Resource Development team, and collaborates with other business unit managers to support their goals.
The Director of Development is expected to be a collaborative leader and professional who is comfortable operating in a wide variety of situations that promote the organization and achieve funding and other resource results.
The Director of Development will be an articulate and energetic organizational spokesperson with a proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts, who demonstrates measureable success in fundraising, communications and public relations in progressively responsible positions. He/she should be a strategic visionary capable of moving insight to action, as well as a results-oriented coach, motivator and developer of staff. While collaborative and inclusive in orientation, he/she must also be a decisive leader who is an effective communicator and motivator. A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience is desired.
The Director should also exhibit proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge (or comparable software such as Salesforce), as well as possess and maintain the highest personal and professional integrity, compassion and standards of excellence. Finally, an advanced degree in marketing, public relations, community development or other related field is desired.
