Under limited supervision, plans, develops, implements and evaluates effective communications including content determination, creative direction, research writing, editing and validation. May lead strategic communications projects. May provide direct support to executives.
The Sr. Communications Specialist will be a self-directed strategic thinker with excellent project management, relationship building, and communications skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously. This position will report directly to the Manager of Global Citizenship and collaborate across OpCos with citizenship, human resources, communications and executives. The Sr. Communications Specialist will have direct responsibility for applying FedEx resources to relevant social problems, demonstrating impact on individuals/the community, and building our brand locally, nationally and internationally.
This position will contribute to developing and implementing the company’s Diversity & Inclusion Citizenship strategy. The Sr. Communications Specialist will be responsible for driving social and business impacts, including executing a strategic communications plan that supports the FedEx brand, reputation and business priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Help advance the company’s Diversity & Inclusion commitments in Memphis and nationally, including via strategies, partnership development and communications aligned with enterprise-wide goals
Have skill at collaborating with nonprofit organizations to develop strategic relationships
Be able to help design and execute both local and national events, including those involving executives and high-profile individuals, that will garner visibility, build relationships and earn reputational benefits for FedEx
Maintain a pipeline of strategic organizations and influencers to ensure our work/investments remain relevant and interesting
Identify strategic ways to collaborate with Business Resource Groups to further D&I goals and boost team member engagement
Excel in oral and written communication, preferably with experience communicating about citizenship and speaking to large groups
Co-manage budget for Diversity & Inclusion
Process/execute grant contracts with nonprofits using the GIFTS system and in collaboration with FedEx legal
Be able to develop and maintain a cross-functional network of contacts and champions
Participate on the Enterprise Diversity Council
Work collaboratively across operating companies and regions in support of reputation goals
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, marketing or related field. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
Five (5) years of directly related experience required.
Demonstrated experience in institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning/analysis and exposure to print and non-print media strategies.
Ability to study complex data and broad business strategy and convert into practical, effective communications strategies.
Proficient analytical, problem-solving, organization, creativity, grammar and writing skills.
Strong human relations/relationship management skills.
