The University of Cincinnati's Treasurer's Office is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Tax Compliance, to oversee and manage the university's tax compliance program. Reporting to the Treasurer, this is an important position requiring professional interaction with all levels of management throughout the university.
The Director must possess excellent technical knowledge and skills in federal and state taxation, developed over a career of at least five years. The Director must also possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to deliver tax information effectively to a broad audience of students and parents, university business staff, governmental tax authorities and others. At least one year of higher education tax experience is highly preferable. The position requires a highly skilled individual with expertise in many aspects of tax compliance. This person must be well versed in the Internal Revenue Code and other sources of tax guidance, and be able to clearly communicate such regulations including, but not limited to, those covering tax-exempt bond compliance, private business use, employee taxation, unrelated business income tax (UBIT), international tax compliance, and sales & use tax.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure proper preparation and timely submission of university tax returns
Ensure proper preparation and timely submission and furnishing of university information returns including 1099 series, 1098-T, 1042-S and Canadian TL11A statements
Review and approve contracts for tax matters, including independent contractor services
Provide tax and procedural consultations with managers, directors, department heads and business staff
Develop and distribute university-wide tax guidance
Serve as the university's primary expert on tax matters affecting the university and its people
Manage relationship with the university's outside tax advisors
Correspond with governmental tax authorities as needed
Develop and recommend changes to policies and procedures to strengthen compliance with applicable laws
Master's degree with seven (7) years' experience; -OR- Bachelor's degree with nine (9) years' experience; -OR- Associate's degree with eleven (11) years' experience; -OR- thirteen (13) years' experience. Degree must be in Business Administration or related field. Financial and administrative experience is required and must include three (3) years supervision
Five years of professional experience with federal taxation
Advanced degree in Taxation or Law is highly preferred
Two to five years' experience with tax-exempt debt compliance is highly preferred
Advanced degree in Business Administration or Accounting
Two to five years' experience with global taxation and state/local taxation
Experience with taxation of nonprofit or governmental entities
Experience with federal or state/local tax audits
Experience with taxation of nonresident aliens, including application of tax treaty provisions
Experience working in a larger organization or company
Experience working in a public accounting or law firm is helpful
Experience with an enterprise accounting system such as SAP
Active CPA license
SALARY: Commensurate with experience, at the level of Director, Business Affairs.
