Visit Tucson, a nonprofit 501c6 organization, charged with marketing, promoting and selling Tucson and southern Arizona to leisure travelers, meeting planners, tour operators, media, and sports and special event operators, is seeking a business development director for its Visit Tucson Sports division.
Visit Tucson Sports has annual booking, room night and economic impact goals associated with its performance. The division builds awareness for metro Tucson as a preferred destination for sports events that fit within existing facilities and is directly responsible for selling and marketing the area to secure events that fill hotel rooms, venues and facilities throughout the region.
Demonstrated productive, positive relationships with national governing bodies and other sports organizations, which stage events that attract out-of-state participants and their associated travel parties
Strong selling, presentation, communication, budgeting, marketing and leadership skills
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sports development for a destination marketing organization, sports commission, national governing body or other amateur athletics organization
Willing to travel and work extended hours
Adept at Microsoft Office platform (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
Develop and implement an annual budget and program of work geared toward reaching the division’s booking, room night and economic impact goals.
Work with sports manager to disseminate leads and communicate with clients, and with sales & marketing analyst to track sports bookings, room nights and economic impact.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with decision-makers and facilities managers for Pima County, City of Tucson, Town of Oro Valley and University of Arizona facilities to ensure we’re soliciting the type of events that fit their parameters during need times for those venues.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with local sports organizers, including: Tucson Invitational Games (collegiate baseball & softball); FC Tucson (soccer); El Tour de Tucson (cycling); Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta and many more.
Attract regional and national competitions staged by USA Cycling, Diving, Shooting, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Triathlon, Volleyball and other national governing bodies.
Attract other youth, amateur and/or professional sports events to metro Tucson that fill hotel rooms with visiting participants and travel parties.
Additional Salary Information: Bonus = 10% of base pay
