Posting Summary: The "History United" project was born in Danville three years ago, assisted by the Danville Regional Foundation, with the goal of transforming the region's divisive history into an impulse for positive change. Over the next three years, using models created in other areas of our work, Virginia Foundation for Humanities will serve as the institutional home for "History United," working with local residents and community leaders to help build a new and stronger sense of identity for this region which includes the City of Danville; Pittsylvania County, Virginia; and Caswell County, North Carolina.
The Program Director is responsible for day-to-day management of the History United project and for the successful development of programs and activities that meet the goals established for the third year of the Project. This includes working closely with Virginia Humanities program and administrative staff, a local Steering/Advisory committee, other members of the History United program team, and with a wide range of historical, cultural, and educational organizations in the Danville region, including the public schools.
While mostly reporting to work in the service area, the Project Director will be expected to attend meetings, at least one per month, at Virginia Humanities in Charlottesville. Other occasional travel may be required. Please note that the end date for this position is December 31, 2019 with continuation dependent upon funding and performance.
