The department of Agronomy and the Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA) seek applicants for an agricultural specialist III to coordinate field research activities for the annual Iowa Crop Performance Tests (corn and soybeans).
Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA) is a nonprofit organization designated by Chapter 177 in the Iowa Legislature as the official seed certifying agency in Iowa. ICIA is composed of member companies and individuals working in the seed industry and advancing seed and crop improvement.
This position collaborates with other ICIA employees in the implementation of research protocols specifically to measure the product performance of corn hybrids and soybean varieties. Position participates in the collection of research data from field test sites throughout the state, maintains data management equipment and field research equipment, assists with the development of computer programs to facilitate data collection and reporting, and assists with the hiring, training, and work flow of hourly employees.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment. The candidate will also have the ability to balance a variety of projects, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and produce exceptional results. Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills will be essential for success in this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.
Preferred Education and Experience:
*Field research experience in Agronomy or related area. *Experience with maintenance and repair of agricultural and/or research equipment. *Agronomic knowledge of corn and soybean production. *Experience operating field research equipment (e.g. tractors, combines, sprayers). *Demonstrated knowledge of experimental design and best management practices for field plot research.
All accrued vacation must be taken during the term of this appointment. Unused vacation will be forfeited.
