The Financial Manager is responsible for managing the financial aspects of assigned divisions of the Ounce. The Financial Manager will establish a financial monitoring system with a focus on adherence to Ounce internal and funder mandated standards. The manager will monitor the day-to-day financial operations of assigned divisions and will oversee the financial auditing duties. Responsibilities include support in preparation of the annual budget, monthly forecasting, grant budget reporting, submission of funder vouchers and financial analysis as needed.
Essential Job Duties
Supports Division Leaders in the development and monitoring of budgets, projected revenue, operating costs, capital and extraordinary expenditures.
Takes lead role in the analysis of assigned divisions’ monthly financials and issues summary with recommendations for formal forecasting
Monitors assigned divisions to ensure that internal and external financial regulations and policies are met.
Orients and provides technical assistance to staff regarding financial procedures and required documentation mandated by funders.
Identifies adjusting journal entries and assures they are submitted in a timely manner for monthly closes and the year-end close.
Provides approval for expenditures as designated. Works with the division staff to ensure a timely submission of invoices to accounts payable.
Assures payroll information in the General Ledger, as well as the supporting subsidiary ledger, is accurate.
Prepares financial reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
Works in collaboration with the Grants Budget Manager in the development of grant budgets and establishment of compliance standards to monitor the spend-down of the private grants.
Makes recommendations regarding shifts in allocation of funding where needed in order to balance expenses with budgets.
Assists with the development of internal accounting and finance policies and procedures.
Participates in Finance division meetings and other assigned workgroups.
Develops and maintains expertise in the Ounce’s accounting systems, including Navision, Concur, Adaptive, Jet Reports and the salary database.
Identifies and proactively researches and makes recommendations for process improvement opportunities as well as best system utilization.
Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of this job description and works on special projects as assigned.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Prior experience with general ledger systems. Experience with Microsoft Navision preferred but not required.
Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial information in varying formats.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Skills in diplomacy for communicating with internal and external partners.

Ability to learn Ounce and funder rules and regulations and apply the guidelines in the activity of the Finance Business Unit.

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in nonprofit, grant management and advanced financial analysis environment.
Master’s Degree in in business related field desired but not required.
