The Development Director (DD) will play a leadership role in building comprehensive fundraising programs and practices that result in increased funds, from expanding our existing base of support to securing new sources of revenue. S/he will have a passion for ending Veteran Homelessness and be excited about helping to lead this organization to a new level of presence and impact in the Washington Metropolitan area.
•S/he will work closely with the President/CEO and the Board of Directors to strategically develop and implement an annual fundraising and development plan within 30 days of hire. This plan will include support from individual donors, corporate organizations, and other institutional sources. •The DD will manage and track all components of institutional support, including growing fundraising events; increasing number and levels of sponsorships at these events; and, establishing an ORHF partnership program to receive corporate and high wealth individual support. •S/he will strategically develop and execute plans to cultivate and steward current donors; create a prospecting and major donor identification process; and when appropriate participate directly in solicitations with members of a campaign committee or executive staff. •S/he will play an integral role in producing donor cultivation events and the annual Gala, working closely with the board committees and Gala chairs to increase revenues and raise our profile from these events. •The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of direct nonprofit fundraising experience, and demonstrated success with donor campaigns and securing individual and grant revenues. •S/he will have experience with establishing new sources of funding including corporate sponsorships. •S/he has excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills; superior project management and organizational skills; reliable and high quality follow-through; an ability to multi-task and work effectively under deadlines; a professional, collaborative and creative approach to development, problem-solving and relationship building; and, a desire to help foster a positive spirit. •S/he will be required to attend all major organizational events (Gala, golf, and events at which ORHF is the beneficiary) and donor engagements. Absences from these activities will be adjudicated by the President/CEO on a case by case basis. •S/he will assist in making direct mail and online annual appeal campaigns as successful as possible and solid working knowledge how to utilize CRM databases to maximize donor and contact management.

Qualified candidates should possess a bachelor's degree and have at least 3 years fundraising experience. Well-qualified candidates should have demonstrated work experience in non-profits. Other experience includes, but is not limited to, prospecting, business development and negotiation. Persuasive writing, strong verbal communication and the ability to interact at the executive level are other key qualifications. Excellent project management skills with reliable and accurate follow through.
Oral and Written Communications
The charity does not have an office and the DD can work out of their home in the DMV, but we need our DD to help us make our fundraising events a success, including setting up and attending; show up at networking events in DC and the surrounding areas; and to be available for face-to-face meetings in Northern Virginia and close-in Maryland. No relocation assistance.
