POSITION: Fundraising and Events Intern
REPORTS TO: Development Team (Development Director, Development Manager, Development Associates, and Philanthropy Officer)
TIMEFRAME: Summer internship, preferably July-September. If you are interested in a fall internship, please specify your ideal timeline!
The Brent’s Place Fundraising and Events Intern position is an unpaid, project based position. The intern will work between 10 and 20 hours a week on a set schedule, Monday through Friday with potential evening and weekend hours. The Fundraising and Events Internship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in fundraising, administration, and/or nonprofit management to learn more from a dedicated and experienced team.
This position will support all facets of Brent’s Place fundraising, stewardship of donors, events and 3rd party events. Projects will be balanced between administrative duties such as pulling reports, creating mailings, event support, and donor stewardship and special projects such as event planning. These projects are large endeavors that will have a significant impact on the agency.
The Fundraising and Events intern will be expected to interpret instruction and ask for direction in order to complete projects, and will be encouraged to contribute ideas that lead to growth or improvement in Brent’s Place special events. This position will report to the Development Team and will work collaboratively with the staff team to successfully accomplish stated goals and objectives as they relate to each area of focus.
Become familiar with the Brent's Place focusing on specific needs of children in life-threatening medical situations
Understand the issues related to long term hospitalization of children, the challenges facing families whose child has a chronic or acute illness, and the financial concerns of families enduring a medical catastrophe
Become knowledgeable in the day to day operations of a non-profit organization
Learn the role of the development department within the larger nonprofit organization
Learn the “lifecycle” of a donation
Gain experience in fundraising & event planning in the following capacities:
Special event support
Stewardship and appreciation so donors understand and appreciate what their donation does for the agency
Develop skills in database management
Understand stewardship principles and tools as they apply to donor and participant engagement, cultivation, and acknowledgement
Learn the critical success factors for special event planning, participation recruitment, fundraising and marketing
Brent’s Place Events:
Assist Development Team with the following:
Assist staff with stewardship of donors after special events and ongoing donations
Assist development team in projects related to the endowment and Wall of Honor event.
Support donors to ensure their satisfaction and understanding of mission

? Must be able to lift 35 pounds and carry for a short distance.
? Valid driver’s license is necessary.
? Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
? Strong English written and oral communication and organizational skills.
? Ability to work as a team player.
? Ability to maintain confidentiality.
? Commitment to 3 month minimum internship.
