The Director of Development will report directly to the President of the VHC Foundation and work collaboratively with the Foundation office leadership team, Hospital and Foundation fund raising committees and volunteers to achieve the strategic goals of the Hospital and the Foundation and ensure that annual fundraising targets are met through proactive and timely donor-centric relationship building with exceptional execution and follow-through.
Responsibilities for this position would include (but are not limited to):
Convey the mission, vision and impact, and member experiences in a compelling manner.
Oversee, execute and establish fundraising plans for “Individual” mid-level, major and planned giving programs.
Research, develop cultivation outreach, execute solicitation strategies both in person and over-the-phone to achieve the VHC Foundation’s financial goals.
Work collaboratively with staff to increase involvement and support for these specific programs: Women’s Health and Empowerment Circle, Friends of Nursing and the Galen Leadership Committee
Manage active portfolio of 50-75 donors and build pipeline for support to achieve comprehensive campaign goal over 4 years.
Identify prospects to be cultivated for annual unrestricted, campaign, planned gifts, event sponsorship and/or programmatic initiatives.
Provide strategy input, research, motivation, fundraising materials, and administrative support as appropriate for assigned campaign and committee volunteers to complete their cultivation/solicitation commitments in a timely manner.
Responsible for stewardship and creating renewal plans for donors under your management.
Implement moves-management tracking for cultivation and fundraising statistics for donor portfolio and assigned volunteer committees.
Ensure accuracy and progress of development projects and operations with team members.
Responsible for oversight of annual donor roll reporting and list recognition.
Oversee and accountable for budgets related to your staff areas of program management
Responsible for assembling development progress reports for your fundraising areas for the Foundation Board.
Manage Development Officers and provide guidance, coaching and supervision to ensure their programs are optimally growing and performing to meet identified goals.
Manage Database staff and administration related to Raiser’s Edge, donor/prospect record keeping and gift acknowledgement process.
Evaluate individual performance of team members on an annual basis and ensure effective follow up and implementation of any performance plans and goals.
Knowledge and Skills Necessary to Achieve Success in this Position:
Fundraising and Business Development
Knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, volunteer management and trends in fundraising.
Proven track record of work in the development field around donor cultivation, stewardship, tracking, and researching.
Experience/aptitude with Raisers Edge fundraising database products or other constituent relationship management systems required.
Complete proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Sophisticated people management skills, including the ability to inspire and support volunteers, and motivate and delegate to staff.
Capacity to collaborate creatively, sensitively, and professionally with a diverse staff, Board members, volunteer corps and members of VHC.
Absolutely professional approach and willingness to support the team fully, including peers and leadership, to fully meet the needs of our Foundation office and VHC.
Capital Campaign experience a plus.
Understanding of available opportunities for Planned Giving and experience with soliciting Planned Gift bequests important
Solid project management skills, including the ability to collaboratively set goals, effectively plan for their achievement and evaluate outcomes.
Ability to work independently and also collaboratively as a vital and contributing member of a team, juggling multiple competing priorities, deadlines and tasks.
Sound judgment; reliable, willing to own the position fully, and utterly trustworthy.
Ability to think strategically and analytically with strong attention to detail and accuracy a must.
Ability to remain highly organized and self-disciplined.

The successful candidate will interface regularly with members and non-members and must have the highest level of professionalism. You will be a critical member of our staff in assisting us to meet the growing needs of the mission. Morning, weekend, or evenings hours are required.
Bachelor’s degree with at least eight years of experience in of progressively complex roles directing nonprofit fundraising programs and experience in major gift management preferred.
Special preference will be given to those with fundraising experiences in a nonprofit setting.

This is not strictly a desk job. Applicant will be on his/her feet and moving at walking speed for prolonged periods of time for events and programs
Project management includes using hands to type, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; talking to and hearing customers on the phone and reading documents
Be able to set up event areas and furniture, such as tables and chairs
Lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds (or more on occasion with support from teammates)
