The Senior Admission Counselor / Assistant Director of Diversity Recruitment Initiatives develops and implements enrollment strategies to ensure that the University meets its undergraduate goals for student diversity with specific focus on recruitment, admission and yield experiences.
This position collaborates with enrollment leaders and key partners throughout the University and neighboring communities to develop, strengthen and expand existing partnerships and opportunities while also identifying, creating and building new partnerships with local nonprofits and community based organizations.
This incumbent will guide the undergraduate recruitment team to implement effective strategies in their own territories as well.
The goal of this position is to build a strong and effective pipeline of college ready students from diverse backgrounds for recruitment through these partnerships and implement activities that integrate family participation while highlighting the University's mission. Working collaboratively with the Office of Admission, Financial Aid and other departments within the Enrollment Division the ADDRI will support meeting the division's goals and Chapman's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
This position may be filled at either the Senior Admission Counselor or Assistant Director level depending on the qualifications of the final candidate.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 2- 4 years' experience as an Admission Counselor is required for both levels. **Demonstrated project management experience and extensive file review experience is required for the Assistant Director level.
Strong organizational skills to prioritize schedules, projects and resources, and to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal skills; proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and leadership.
Strong technical skills to learn and use enterprise and department information systems and related software applications, such as PeopleSoft, Hobson, CRM, ACS, ImageNow, ApplyNow, EMT Connect and The Common Application.
Strong presentation skills to persuasively communicate/connect with target audiences.
Excellent time management skills with the energy and flexibility to coordinate multiple assignments, set priorities, and work under pressure in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work independently with little supervision while also being a team player.
Ability to travel inside and outside the U.S. during annual recruitment/outreach cycles, including weekends and evenings.
Computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications
Ability to show respect for, interact with, and handle sensitive and/or confidential issues with a wide range of individuals within the unit, across the university, and in the public at large.
Sensitivity and understanding of individual student and family needs and cultural diversity.
Ability to quickly learn the CU selective admission process and administration; good judgment and quick thinking.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate data, assess alternatives, and make appropriate decisions and/or recommendations.
Clear understanding of the mission of Chapman University; high level of working knowledge of CU programs, policies, and procedures.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and evaluate previous coursework/testing.
Ability to follow relevant policies and procedures.
Ability to present Chapman University in a positive and persuasive manner.
Technical skills to learn and use enterprise and departmental tools and systems.
Knowledge and understanding of a range of student life issues and concerns.
Working knowledge of student career and academic advisement principles, methods and procedures.
