The Accounting and HR Manager will work with the Senior Accountant to support the Finance Department in the accounting operations of the trade association (ASCA) and its foundation (ASCA Foundation). The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is based in the Association office in Alexandria, VA.
The successful candidate will have technical capacity, emotional maturity, team spirit and the willingness to tackle projects while maintaining the core functions.
This position includes performing the following core functions:
Accounts Receivable: Manage lockbox deposits, prepare bank deposits and process credit card charges as necessary, research unallocated payments, and manage chargeback requests.
Accounts Payable: Process and manage accounts payable using a cloud-based application.
Human Resources: Manage the onboarding and offboarding of staff, ensure accurate and complete paperwork for personnel files, and administer the fringe benefits program.
Publication Orders: Process a low volume of orders in the association’s membership database, manage inventory, update online store as necessary, and prepare shipment of publications.
Administrative: Provide support to departmental staff to ensure compliance with ASCA/ASCA Foundation finance policies and procedures, file and maintain accounting records and reports pertinent to the financial operations. Train and support staff members on the use of online tools (Bill.com, Tallie and Paychex Flex).
Audit: Assist with providing information to external auditors for the annual audit.
Annual Meeting: Travel to spring annual meeting to assist with onsite registration processing and other duties as needed.
Committees: Coordinate finance and audit committee calls and record minutes.
Data Entry: Assist with accounting data entry as needed during high volume period.
Data Analysis: Utilize processes and techniques to cleanse, validate and present data.
Other: Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Strong working knowledge of accounting functions, principles and practices (preferably pertaining to nonprofits).
Ability to independently prepare accurate ad hoc reports and analyses.
Ability to identify inefficiencies and risks and then recommend corrective actions.
Experience with managing personnel functions and employee fringe benefits.
Ability to process periodic high volume of numerical work with speed and accuracy.
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience preferred in using Avectra netForum membership database, QuickBooks and Microsoft Access.
Bachelor’s degree (accounting or finance majors preferred); 3+ years of accounting experience (preferably in a trade association); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to sit for long periods of time, stand, crouch, stoop and reach.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
