The Field School seeks a strategic thinker with excellent financial skills as our Accounting Manager. The Field School is a thriving and dynamic independent school with a tight-knit and diverse community, located in northwest Washington DC. The Accounting Manager is an integral member of Field’s Business Office team, responsible for daily accounting functions, including coordinating and assisting in the preparation of financial reports. The Accounting Manager will also assist with budgeting and the annual audit.
Under the supervision of the Business Officer, and in accordance with the School’s established policies and procedures, the Accounting Manager will:
GENERAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING
Manage daily operations of the accounting function, including accounts payable and receivable;
Prepare financial statements, including but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, analyses of historical and future income and expenses and monthly dashboards;
Ensure accurate student billing and receivables;
Reconcile operating and investment accounts on a monthly basis;
Maintain accurate records and report on the School’s bonds;
Administer the credit card program and ensure compliance with use policy;
Track fixed asset inventory and maintain record of depreciable assets;
Collaborate with other department members to support overall department goals and objectives;
Work with the Advancement Office to ensure accurate recording of pledges and gifts
Supervise all incoming cash receipts and deposits;
Maintain daily cash balances and prepare monthly cash flow reports;
Provide weekly cash reports
BUDGET AND AUDIT
Assist the Business Officer in the preparation of the budget and subsequent monitoring of revenues and expenses;
Prepare schedules and work papers for annual audit;
Assist with preparation and review of annual tax filing;
Maintain permanent office files
Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and qualities:
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and/or a CPA or MBA
A strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting. Experience at an independent school is a plus.
A solid understanding of accounting principles
Strong organizational and analytical skills with high level attention to detail
Ability to approach challenges in a creative way and find thoughtful solutions
Excellent communication skills, particularly in regard to presenting financial data and reports
Experience working with accounting software (Sage preferred)
Demonstrated skill level working with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Powerpoint
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of workflow and school events
