PROVAIL seeks an experienced Director of Development to manage and expand the successful fundraising program for one of the state’s largest nonprofits supporting children and adults with disabilities.
PROVAIL is celebrating its 75th anniversary having been founded in 1942 by parents of children with cerebral palsy. They created some of the first community services for individuals with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities in the area. Since then, PROVAIL has evolved into one of the state’s largest providers of support services to children and adults with all types of disabilities.
Our mission is supporting people with disabilities to fulfill their life choices. We help people decide how they want to live their life in the community and then provide the support services they need to act on those choices. We are a lifelong resource to individuals with disabilities and their families. Our services include:
Community-based residential services for adults with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury;
Competitive supported employment helping adults and high school students with disabilities find jobs in the community;
Clinical services including occupational/speech therapy and innovative assistive technology solutions for communication and mobility challenges; and,
PROVAIL also operates a social enterprise manufacturing business to generate revenue to support our direct service programs. We employ approximately 375 staff and have a budget of about $17 million.
The Director will lead the Development team and coordinate with the Nominating/Development Committee of the Board. The Director reports to the President & CEO and is a member of PROVAIL’s senior management team. The Director manages a 4 person development staff including a Grants Manager, Annual Giving Manager, Events Coordinator and Development Assistant.
We have a strong fundraising program that raises over $800,000 per year from events, direct mail, online donations and grants. Our program has evolved over the past 5 years with major changes to our special events to emphasize donor relationship building and stewardship. We have seen strong retention and steady growth of corporate giving associated with our biggest event. We believe we have significant growth potential for individual giving especially in the area of major gifts and strong opportunities for increased foundation support. We have also seen strong growth in grant funding since adding a full-time Grants Manager to the team in 2015.
Our goal is to capitalize on our excellent program outcomes, strong community relationships and very positive reputation to increase fundraising to over $1 million per year. This new funding will help us launch key strategic initiatives that will increase our scale and impact.
This is the perfect opportunity for a strategic fundraiser with a strong track record of growth who can effectively lead a motivated and enthusiastic development team.
Specific responsibilities include:
The Director will oversee all unrestricted campaigns, restricted campaigns in support of programs, special events, and direct mail. The development of a multi-year fundraising plan and successful major gifts program will be specific areas of focus.
The Director will also oversee marketing and communications efforts that complement fundraising efforts, build awareness of PROVAIL’s brand and support program development. S/he will oversee all external communications, including print materials, PROVAIL’s website and social media platforms.
PROVAIL’s CEO and Board of Directors are actively engaged in fundraising efforts and the Director is responsible for fostering that engagement and helping it grow. S/he will work closely with the Board’s Development Committee and the CEO on development of a fundraising plan that facilitates board member engagement.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years non-profit fundraising & supervisory experience. S/he should bring a track record of fundraising success along with development and fostering of a fundraising plan.
The ideal candidate will have the following specific qualifications:
Broad development background with experience in events, annual giving, major gifts, grants, and corporate giving.
Experienced development team leader who can also build strong cross-department relationships with program Directors.
Outstanding communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to plan independently, develop budgets, and apply both creative and strategic thinking to complex problems.
Ability to manage multiple areas of activity simultaneously and to coach staff to high performance.
