The San Francisco 49ers Foundation, the nonprofit associated with the San Francisco 49ers, supports programs for underserved youth in the Bay Area. Since 1991, the Foundation has donated $40 million to non-profits, committing $4 million in 2016. In recognition of their unparalleled commitment to charitable giving, the 49ers were the winners of the Beyond Sport 2015 Sport Team of the Year Award and one of four finalists for the 2015 and 2016 ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year Award.
The San Francisco 49ers are seeking a collaborative, positive, and hard-working individual to serve as the Executive Director of the 49ers Foundation. The Executive Director will lead fundraising efforts and work closely with funded programs to ensure both fiscal responsibility and visibility for those programs. The Executive Director reports to the General Counsel of the San Francisco 49ers and to the Foundation Chairman of the Board and will work collaboratively with ownership, organizational leadership and key external partners. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader to guide the next stage of the 49ers Foundation’s evolution.
Develop a five-year strategic fundraising and board development plan for the Foundation
Collaborate with grant recipients and team-affiliated philanthropic efforts, including the 49ers STEAM Education Program and Youth Football, to increase visibility of flagship programs
Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, building relationships with business, philanthropic, academic, and government leaders; lead grant proposals
Ensure that the Board is updated on all Foundation activities and engaged in identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective supporters
Work creatively with the Community Relations, Corporate Partnership, and other team departments to ensure that Foundation events are conducted in a professional manner, raise funds, and gain new donors
Collaborate with the Foundation’s accounting firm to prepare and manage annual budget and execute sound financial practices
Maintain official records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Work with the National Football League Foundation to secure individual team contributions
Oversee game day 50/50 raffle
5+ years of management experience in a non-profit setting, with a track record of success in managing external relationships and overseeing internal operations
Demonstrated ability to drive sustainable nonprofit fundraising programs, with a track record of success in building relationships with corporate sponsors and/or major donors
Prior experience in partnering with a Board of Directors and leading Board development
Highly collaborative team member, demonstrating the ability to partner with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and to act both as a leader and an individual contributor
Strong strategic planning skills and the ability to translate strategy into concrete action plans
Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage potential donors and grantees
Ability to manage complex relationships while upholding the 49ers brand and demonstrating high levels of discretion and personal integrity
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Ability to travel and to work during nights, weekend, and holidays as needed
