Campus to Career IT Professional
MSU Information Technology and the Office of the CIO provide the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting IT across MSU. MSU IT and departmental IT staff offer technology resources that support MSU’s mission of providing education, conducting research, and advancing engagement.
MSU Information Technology is searching for talented individuals to bring the best IT to work in our new 24-month Select Campus-to-Career IT Program beginning Summer 2017. The candidate will learn what it takes to provide business value through the effective use of IT and Project Management strategies. This program is designed to provide early career professionals a learning opportunity within the diverse world of IT. Four areas of concentration from the six major units in MSU IT -- Innovation Platforms, Application Services, Academic Technology, Project Management, Security, and Networks -- will be selected for a 6-month focus rotation. Mentors will be assigned for guidance and evaluation of the successful candidates.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associates Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelors Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated pursuit of excellence and mastery in the field of information technology OR dedication to advancing the field of information technology through community service such as volunteer work for philanthropic or nonprofit organizations
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (both verbal and written)
Ability to understand, discuss, and explain technical concepts with a diverse audience
Strong problem solving and technical skills
Strong critical thinking and detail oriented
Ability to be responsive and biased towards speed and execution
Ability to work under pressure in a highly collaborative environment, as well as work independently, and bring innovative thought to projects
IT Infrastructure including, but not limited to, networking, storage and compute, communication platforms, or data center operations
Responsive web design and development
Project organization, project management frameworks, and the use of project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)
Database design and principals including, but not limited to, ETL optimization, query optimization for reporting or application usage, data visualization techniques,etc.
