Reporting to the Executive Director of the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA), lead the team responsible for global educational travel and related opportunities for alumni and friends of the University. Serve as part of the AYA's senior leadership team. 1. Develop strategic direction for AYA's educational travel and related programs. Evaluate options based on University and AYA goals such as maximizing revenue and alumni engagement, as well as on trends in the travel industry and passenger interest. 2. Manage overall day-to-day operations of the AYA's educational travel and related programs, including maintaining overall quality control, program execution, and developing and maintaining relationships with tour operators so that standards for quality and space allocations are maintained. Lead efforts to ensure that each travel program includes substantial Yale components. Provide leadership for trip selection and decisions about altering or canceling programs. 3. Assess program outcomes through financial results, traveler feedback, benchmarking, and other metrics. 4. Supervise staff team, including professional and administrative staff. Set goals for staff performance and develop standards for customer service, vendor relations, volunteer management, and other critical staff functions. 5. In collaboration with vendor partners and University colleagues, devise marketing and communications strategies to develop new audiences and retain existing ones, utilizing the full range of print, web, and social media platforms as appropriate. 6. Oversee and expand faculty involvement in educational travel and related programs, including recruiting new faculty volunteers, stewardship of past faculty leaders, and collaborating with AYA and Office of Development colleagues to make best use of faculty resources. 7. Cultivate faculty, University administration, and alumni volunteers to participate in developing distinctive and customized travel itineraries and educational programs, as well as enhancements for vendor-operated programs. 8. Set and monitor financial objectives for the program, including revenue targets. Work, as needed, with other university colleagues on matters related to budgets and forecasts. Develop new sources of travel revenue. Negotiate commissions with tour operators. 9. Participate in and staff alumni activities sponsored by the AYA such as Yale College reunions and the Assembly, including evenings and weekends as necessary. 10. Must be willing to travel in order to attend alumni events and meetings, as well as serve as staff representative on one or more AYA travel programs per year and to attend ETC most years. Experience with travel planning, especially affinity travel. Experience working with volunteers, especially faculty and alumni. Thorough knowledge of the University and its academic programs.
Required Licenses Or Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five years of related work experience.
